11th July 2020
Following the announcement on 9th July 2020 by the Culture Secretary, Rt. Hon Oliver Dowden,
The British Dance Council strongly advises reading the following information provided by the Government. Each dance school, club, business is unique and the guidance and regulations  required for opening needs to be applied individually. It is also advisable you contact your own local authority for personal guidance if you have questions as each councils rules may differ.
If you hire venues, contact them to advise your business may restart. They may not be able to open, and many state school hire facilities may not be available until September. Other venue hires may have totally different requirements for all the various bookings they hold.
It is essential you are equipped with PPE, and have a risk assessment suitable for your business. The Government will certainly update requirements, sometimes daily. Go to gov.uk to view.
We will continue to advise as much information as possible.
At this time, dance venues are not permitted to open for dances/competitions. Guidance for “couples dancing†is at present being sourced and we hope to have a clearer guideline available from the Government.
