British Dance Council
The British Dance Council was formed in 1929 as the Official Board of Ballroom Dancing (OBBD). The name was subsequently changed in 1985 to the British Council of Ballroom Dancing and, again in 1996, the name was changed to British Dance Council.

Freestyle Status card fees will be increased to £22 each from 1st October 2025.
Status cards for new registered dancers submitted from 1st October 2025 will carry over to 2026 and be valid until 31st December 2026.

The British Dance Council and the British DanceSport Association are pleased to confirm that a meeting took place on 3rd September in London.
Both organisations are committed to working together in the future and finding a constructive way forward, with the shared goal of supporting and advancing dance in the UK.

✨ BDC Classical Sequence Inventive Dance Winner! ✨
We’re delighted, David Bullen, was awarded first place in the Classical Sequence section at the BDC Inventive Dance Competition!
His winning dance, the Saunter Violetta, was demonstrated by the talented Fabio and Amy D’Angelo.
The trophy was presented by Kevin Page, CEO of the NATD (National Association of Teachers of Dancing).

Huge congratulations to Barry Earnshaw & Beverley Murch-Fowkes, the proud winners of the BDC Latin Sequence Inventive Dance Competition with their Rumba Novello.
This was an incredibly tough section to adjudicate, with so many entries showcasing superb choreography.

We’re thrilled to share that Paul and Caroline Dellar have taken first place in the BDC Modern Section Inventive Dance Competition with their Daisy Love Foxtrot.
